In Detail
BHRT can address the broad symptom cluster associated with hormone decline. In women, this commonly includes hot flashes and night sweats, fragmented sleep, anxiety and mood changes, brain fog, vaginal dryness and painful intercourse, declining libido, joint aches, and the body composition changes that accompany the menopausal transition.
In men, testosterone therapy commonly improves energy, mood, motivation, libido, erectile quality, and the ability to build and preserve muscle. Improvements in sleep, cognition, and metabolic markers are often secondary benefits.
BHRT is not a panacea. Symptoms that turn out to be driven by sleep apnea, thyroid disease, depression, or lifestyle factors will not be solved by hormones. A thorough evaluation distinguishes what hormone therapy can and cannot fix.
